Program Description

Spectrum is a senior Alternative Program. The primary goal of Spectrum is to provide students with an opportunity to complete Grades 10-12 in an alternative setting. Students are invited to complete 5 courses each semester. Classes are 60 minutes in length. Youth and Family Workers provide social and emotional support to students and their caregivers and liaise with social agencies. Spectrum offers a lunch program which runs in conjunction with our sustainable garden program. 

Spectrum is for students who are working on their senior courses. Students are most likely to be successful at Spectrum have the academic skills necessary for graduation but benefit from the additional support offered by an Alternative Program. Students who are willing to work hard and accept support, including an attendance policy, have success. The curriculum focuses on academic and elective courses leading to a BC Secondary School Graduation Certificate (Dogwood), potentially fulfilling post-secondary entrance requirements.

Referral Process

The student’s current VSB case manager or administrator can submit the application found here. 

All referrals are reviewed to determine program suitability relative to individual student needs. Successful applicants will be contacted by the Program Teacher or Youth and Family Worker to arrange an intake meeting with the student and their caregiver.
