Vinery
Program Description
The Vinery Program provides a safe, inclusive, trauma-informed educational environment to students who need added social-emotional support and/or have not experienced success in a mainstream high school setting. Vinery is an academic Alternative Program that offers individualized self-paced academic programming in the core academic areas at the Grades 8 and 9 level. The self-paced nature of the academic program allows for some flexibility with attendance and requires students to be motivated and able to work independently.
Vinery offers Art, PE, Skills, and Career Education as in-house electives. Curriculum goals are met through a varied combination of activities in the classroom, main school facilities, and community field trips. Students are most successful at Vinery when they are able to take part fully in all the program activities.
Student progress is managed through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process which involves the student, the parent/guardian and program staff. Adaptations are made where necessary to meet the needs of the students. In addition to providing educational and recreational programming, the program staff is dedicated to working individually with students to focus on their social, emotional, and academic needs.
After completing their Grade 9 year, students may return to their neighbourhood school, apply to another district program, or apply cross-boundary to an out of catchment school.
