West

Program Description

The West Program is a Grade 9 and 10 Alternative Program with a strong focus on connecting youth to educational programming who have been disengaged for a variety of reasons. Program staff work to build strong and trusting relationships with students and to provide a safe, supportive, and creative educational environment. Our intention is to reengage each student in their own educational future, build confidence and self-esteem, and give students a sense of belonging and community.

Student progress is managed through the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process which involves the student, the parent/guardian and program staff. The core academic courses are adapted to meet the student’s needs. In addition to providing educational and recreational programming, the program staff is dedicated to working individually with students to focus on their social and emotional needs. After completing Grade 10, students may return to their neighbourhood school, apply to another district program, or apply cross-boundary to an out of catchment school.
