PRESERVING THE HISTORY AND LEGACY OF PUBLIC EDUCATION IN VANCOUVER
Beginning in 2004, a group of retired teachers and administrators formed a volunteer committee whose goal is to preserve the history and legacy of the Vancouver School District. Our underlying aim: to promote support for public education.
Currently, the Committee is working on the following:
- Organizing a District Archives located at the Vancouver School Board. Materials held in the District Archives include photographs, documents, and artifacts gathered by VSB staff, and items donated by former students and other members of the general public.
Donations are welcome. Contact us by email at heritage@vsb.bc.ca
- Building a Heritage website. Highlights: a history of the Vancouver School District, photo collections on all current schools and many schools that are no more; featured stories and photos, famous grads, a short history of alternative education. The website will continue to grow as new material is added to it.

- Providing support to schools interested in building their own archives, preparing to celebrate major anniversaries, and/or are scheduled for seismic mitigation.
